MTA: 250 workers to be laid off

THE BRONX - 250 station agents will lose their jobs, according to the The Metropolitan Transportation Authority.

Layoffs of 500 worker were scheduled for last Friday but a last-minute injunction temporarily stalled the order.

Another 228 workers will remain. A judge will decide the fate of another 22 workers Wednesday.

The agency says the layoffs are necessary to plug its $800 million budget shortfall.

Transit workers say layoffs could put straphangers at risk.
