MTA approves fare, toll hikes

THE BRONX - The MTA has voted in favor of raising the fares on city subways and buses.

Transit officials say the changes include raising the base fare to $2.50 per ride, decreasing bonuses, charging $1 to replace a MetroCard, and raising weekly and monthly passes.

Toll hikes were also approved.

The increases are expected to take effect in March.
