NEW YORK - The MTA and AT&T have announced the winners of the 2013 App Quest Challenge, which was aimed at improving the commutes for millions of subway, bus and rail riders.

The grand prize in the global competition to develop new mobile tools went to City Mapper, which uses real-time transit information to alert you to any service disruptions, while also providing hyper local weather.

The second prize for best overall app was Subculture FM, a smartphone tool that connects straphangers with artists they've seen performing on the subway. Rounding out the top three is Transit App, which allows riders to see departure times and service changes.
