THE BRONX - A MTA bus driver says she was attacked by a passenger for not stopping at a bus stop that was under construction last weekend.

Maria Hogan, a 12-year veteran of the MTA, says her male attacker was with his family when he began hitting her for bypassing the stop on Fordham Road.  She says she doesn't understand why he got so mad because she made an announcement about the stop prior to the attack.  She says she even warned passengers about the stop in Spanish.

Now, fellow bus drivers are calling on the MTA to install protective partitions on buses.

The MTA says it is working on protective shields for bus operators. The agency says it has installed shields on five buses as part of a pilot project, which will be extended to 100 more buses soon.

This isn't the first attack that has happened on the Bx9 line.  In June, another bus driver was allegedly attacked by a teenager after she was told she couldn't bring her dog on the bus without a crate.
