THE BRONX - An MTA bus driver was stabbed last night while performing his safety check on the Bx41 line at 148th Street and Third Avenue.

According to a TWU Local 100 spokesperson, the driver, who was not named, had finished his route and was checking his bus before leaving for the evening. After waking up a sleeping passenger, he says he was attacked from behind and stabbed in the left hand while trying to protect himself.

It was the third attack on an MTA bus driver in the past two weeks, and the second on a Bronx driver. The driver is recovering at Lincoln Hospital.

The Transit Workers Union says it is asking the MTA for more security measures for its drivers. The Bx41 bus was not equipped with a security camera.

No arrests have been made.
