MTA: 'Fare beating' a serious problem

THE BRONX - The MTA says 'fare beating' is becoming a serious problem in the Bronx, especially on Bx12 Select buses.

According to the MTA, ?fare beating,' the act of hopping on a public transit bus or train without paying, cost it $27 million in revenue last year.

News 12 The Bronx set up cameras throughout the borough to examine the problem. In just six hours, at least 20 people were seen hopping on a train or bus without buying a ticket.

Some Bronx residents admitted it is hard to resist ?fare beating? because many times there is no one watching.
