MTA fare hikes could hit monthly, weekly subway riders

THE BRONX - New fare hikes proposed by the Metropolitan Transportation Authority could hit monthly and weekly subway riders.

The organization is discussing two proposed plans to fill its budget gap. One plan calls to limit the amount of unlimited rides to 90 per month and 22 per week.

The second plan would keep both cards unlimited, but raise the fare to $104 per month and $29 per week.

Many transit riders say they have no choice but to pay since the subway is their only means of transportation.

The MTA is expected to send the plans to a series of public hearings before a final vote in December.
