THE BRONX - The MTA's newest fare hike went into effect at 2 a.m. today.

Fares on single-ride MetroCards have gone up to $2.50 from $2.25, while senior and disabled passes now stand at $1.10. Unlimited weekly passes are up to $29 from $27, and unlimited MetroCards have risen from $89 to $104, a 17 percent increase.

The MTA also eliminated its 1-day Fun Pass and 14-day unlimited cards.

Fares on all MTA bridges and tunnels are also on the move. Tolls will cost $6.50 on the Throgs Neck, Whitestone, RFK and Henry Hudson bridges.

MTA Chairman Jay Walder says the hike has been planned for six months and must be put into effect to help fill the agency's $900 million budget gap.
