THE BRONX - The MTA held a meeting at Hostos Community College Tuesday night to hear public comments about a possible fare hike on the horizon.

MTA Chairman Thomas Prendergast, along with other top officials, were in attendance to hear what residents and local leaders thought about a plan to hike fares in March 2017.

The MTA is considering two different plans for the subways and buses. In one scenario, the base MetroCard fare stays the same but the bonus is lower if you buy multiple rides at a time. The second plan would bring the fare up from $2.75 to $3, but the bonus is much higher at 16 percent.

As for the bridges and tunnels, East River crossings will go from $5.54 to $5.76. The Henry Hudson Bridge toll would also go up 10 cents.

Those in attendance at the meeting asked if the fare hikes would mean better services for commuters. Others wanted to know if there were any other alternatives.
