MTA spokesperson: Deal near to save student MetroCards

THE BRONX - An MTA spokesperson says a deal is in the works to save student MetroCards. The spokesperson says the deal is being negotiated between the MTA, Gov. David Paterson (D-N.Y.) and the state Legislature. The MTA said it needed to get rid of the free cards to close an $800-million budget gap. The move prompted protests from students across the city.
