THE BRONX - The Metropolitan Transportation Authority has announced the cutting of its Bx14 bus line amid massive financial problems.

Mired in an $800 million budget deficit, the MTA says eliminating the line will save about $500,000 per year.

Nearly 3,000 people ride the Bx14 bus daily, many of whom are students and commuters, according to the MTA. Residents say they are particularly concerned about senior citizens and the disabled who have no other means of transportation. Some of the nearest subway stations, like the Parkchester 6 train, are close to a mile away.

The MTA says the changes are slated to take effect on June 27.
