MTA to vote on reduced fare hike

HUNTS POINT - The Metropolitan Transportation Authority will officially vote Monday on a plan to lower proposed fare hikes.

The MTA board is expected to reduce the proposed increases from 23 percent to around 10 percent.

The agency is also expected to cancel service cuts that were originally planned thanks to last week's last-minute bailout package in Albany.

Under the plan, bus and subway fares will rise to $2.25. It will also cost 50 cents more to take a cab in the city.
