NEW YORK - (AP) - A summit of U.S. Muslim organizations is underway in New York City to address controversies over a proposedIslamic center near ground zero.

A spokesman says the Muslim leaders have been meeting all daySunday in an effort to arrive at a united stand on the proposedIslamic center.

The organizations also hope to address what they see as a risein anti-Muslim sentiments and rhetoric that has accompanied thenationwide debate over the project.

Groups participating in the summit include the Islamic Societyof North America, the Islamic Circle of North America, the MuslimAlliance of North America and the Council on American-IslamicRelations.

The meetings are taking place at a hotel near Kennedy Airport,and the groups plan to hold a news conference Monday at the site ofthe proposed Islamic center.
