Muslims celebrate despite Florida pastor's threats

(09/10/10) THE BRONX - Controversy over a Florida pastor's plans to burn the Quran has cast a shadow over Ramadan festivities, but many Muslim Bronx residents say their celebrations will go on.

Crowds at the Futa Islamic Center were so large they spilled out onto the sidewalk where people prayed over tarps on the cement. The three rounds of prayer is a yearly ritual as Muslims celebrate the end of a long month of fasting.

This time of year, the Muslim community refers to the very book Pastor Terry Jones has threatened to burn. Many Muslim leaders have an important message for the pastor. Instead of burning the Quran, they ask him to open up the holy book and read it.
