THE BRONX - The Bronx man convicted of killing his former tenant received a 25-year prison sentence for manslaughter Thursday.

Hundreds of hours of testimony and more than 20 witnesses were presented during the monthlong trial where a jury found Nasean Bonie guilty of the July 2012 slaying of Ramona Moore. As News 12 has previously reported, he was also found not guilty of the more serious crime of second-degree murder.

The 25-year sentence was the maximum term possible, along with another five years of post-release supervision.

Prosecutors argued that Bonie killed Moore in a dispute over unpaid rent money. She was a mother of four.

Investigators say he tried to cover up his crime by dumping Moore's body in a remote area. Moore’s remains were found in Orange County three years later.

Bonie insisted in court that he is innocent and says he plans to appeal.
