ARLINGTON, Va. - All across the country, people are coming together this Memorial Day to pay tribute to the men and women who have defended their freedom.

President Barack Obama laid a wreath at the Tomb of the Unknowns at Arlington National Cemetery in Virginia. The cemetery is the final resting place for thousands of American war heroes.

In a speech, the president urged guests to "Honor the strength and resolve and the love these brave Americans felt for each other and for our country."

Thousands also gathered on the west lawn of the Capitol Sunday night for the National Memorial Day Concert. Guests sang along to patriotic favorites during the free annual event.
