Nearly 26 trees on Pelham Parkway to be removed

THE BRONX - Nearly 26 trees lining Pelham Parkway are to be removed this week.

Officials say the trees are deceased or sickly and could be hazardous to drivers.

The Department of Design and Construction will be performing a construction project on Pelham Parkway South from Stillwell Avenue to Boston Road. As part of the project, the trees will be removed to make way for sewer lines and a new water main.

Removal of the trees was the subject of controversy recently. Residents said the trees added to the property value and beauty of the neighborhood.
