KINGSBRIDGE - Crews continue to work around the clock at the site of an explosion in Kingsbridge that killed an FDNY battalion chief and injured 20 other people, but neighbors’ lives have been slowed down by a resulting lack of utilities.

The explosion, near West 234th Street and Irwin Avenue, has left neighbors without gas service and hot water since 7:30 a.m. Tuesday.

Debris sent flying in the blast struck and killed Chief Michael Fahy as firefighters were responding to a reported gas leak in the area.

Members of one family tell News 12 that they've been walking back and forth to shower and cook at relative's houses. They've also been stranded without their car and the children have to take public transportation to school.

Neighbors say Con Edison workers have told them they may remain without service for several days.
