THE BRONX - A Y-shaped intersection near a Kingsbridge Heights public school has lawmakers and community members alike demanding new safety measures.

Assemblyman Jeffrey Dinowitz is pushing for the Department of Transportation to reconsider traffic patterns at the intersection of Heath Avenue and Fort Independence Street, near P.S. 360.

Under the current signage, northbound traffic on the east side of Heath Avenue has a stop sign just before the intersection, and the west side of Fort Independence Street has a yield sign. Neighbors say they want a three-way light or an all-way stop instead.

People say crossing the intersection on foot is so troublesome that they prefer to walk up to the intersection with Giles Place to avoid it.

Dinowitz says that the DOT has not yet released the results of a traffic study conducted last September. The DOT says it is "currently conducting a signal study at this location."
