THE BRONX - A strip of one busy Bronx road is set to be completely transformed in order to make it a safer place for all drivers, cyclists and pedestrians.

The city's Department of Transportation announced a makeover plan for West 170th Street that includes a new connection for bikers at the Highbridge entrance, along with expanded bike trails for improved access to the waterfront and upland routes.

Extra space will also be added at intersections to improve the flow of traffic on the road, which has already been converted to one-way from University to Ogden avenues.

Signs and barriers line the street, marking the beginning of the construction process, but there's no word yet on when it's expected to be completed.
