THE BRONX - A proposed new bill could make it easier to track down stolen tires and rims in the borough.

The bill would ensure cars sold in New York have the VIN number engraved onto the wheels and rims so police can track the parts. Police say Riverdale and Kingsbridge have had about 40 incidents of tire and rim thefts this year.

Thieves are targeting alloy rims attached to newer model Toyota and Honda vehicles, according to police. The parts can cost up to $3,000 making them an easy sell for thieves.
