THE BRONX - A new report released by United Way shows the cost of living in the Bronx without any government assistance may be more unreasonable than imagined.

The report indicates that a single parent with two children in the Bronx would need to make a little more than $5,000 every month.

The Census Bureau says that number is about $700 less than what the average New Yorker makes every month.

Researcher Diana Pearce says the $5,000 per month is a bare-bones budget with no food stamps or government assistance.

Residents on Ogden Avenue, however, say it is difficult to meet that number.

Pearce says her next step is to research how many Bronx residents live above that self-sufficiency standard and how many are below it.
