THE BRONX - Some Bronx students are racing the clock to take the GED test in New York State before changes take effect next year.

As of Jan. 1, 2014, students will be given a brand new test to earn their high school equivalency diploma. Education officials say it will better align with the state's core curriculum standards and will better prepare students to pursue a college education.

Students who have already passed a section of the exam must finish it before the end of the year or they'll have to start from scratch.

One GED prep center in Mott Haven is offering free classes and says it's eager to take on students.
