THE BRONX - Councilman James Vacca (D-Bronx) says he's planning to introduce legislation that would force the city to fill potholes more quickly than the 30-day period it has now.

Vacca, who is also the chairman of the City Council Transportation Committee, says he believes potholes can be fixed within just six days.

The latest Department of Transportation statistics show their response times have gone up, but officials say crews have already fixed 284,000 potholes throughout the city this year and have increased their work force by 10 percent.

Vacca says he plans to present the bill to the City Council in June and hopes it will be put into effect by this coming winter.
