THE BRONX - The Department of Sanitation reports that The Bronx receives the most summonses for dog waste in New York City and a neighborhood group in Pelham Parkway is taking action to make that number go down. New signs reminding dog owners to clean up after their dogs have been installed throughout the neighborhood.

One dog owner in the area says the problem has gotten so bad, he puts shoes on his dogs when he takes them out for a walk. To combat the problem, the Pelham Parkway Neighborhood Association has installed new waterproof signs around the neighborhood to remind people out with their dogs to clean up.

"We're trying to have people read the signs and undertand we're trying to keep the neighborhood beautiful and enhance the quality of life in the area," said the association's president Edith Blitzer.

In the 2012 fiscal year, the Dept. of Sanitation says nearly half of dog waste summonses issued in New York City were in The Bronx.
