THE BRONX - The city decided today to add a wealth of new trees along Pelham Parkway. The facelift will give the parkway an additional 246 trees.
Workers were out today adding 46 of the new trees in the mall area that separates east and westbound Pelham roadways between Boston Road and Stillwell Avenue.
The rest of the 246 trees will be planted on the eastbound side of Pelham Parkway once construction dies down.
Before the decision, the city had considered cutting down 70 of the existing trees to make room for a guard rail and help prevent accidents.
