New York Blood Center urges donors to give blood amid shortage

Bad weather has resulted in the cancellation of more than 100 blood drives citywide. (2/6/14)

THE BRONX - Donors are being urged to roll up their sleeves and give blood to help reverse a citywide shortage. 

The New York Blood Center says more than 100 blood drives have been canceled due to the recent bouts of bad weather, and that has left hospitals in short supply. 

Bronx students and parents at Mount Saint Michael Academy are among those who are now stepping up and lending an arm.

Officials hope to get at least a full week's worth replenished.
