PELHAM BAY - Schools throughout the city were open today, although not many students actually showed up. The students and parents who did brave the elements weren't too happy about it.

One parent said, "Who is Carmen or de Blasio to decide what's best for my kid? At the end, it is really up to the parents."

Not only was school in session today, but all after-school activities including sports went on as scheduled.

Mayor Bill de Blasio says keeping the schools open was "the right thing to do," adding the city will only close its public schools when absolutely necessary.
