NEW YORK - The New York City Health Department says the first ever documented case of Zika virus transmission from a woman to a man has been reported in New York City.

CDC officials say a routine investigation identified a non-pregnant woman in her 20s who reported she had engaged in a single event of unprotected sex with a male partner the day she returned from traveling to an area with ongoing Zika virus transmission.

Seven days after sexual intercourse, the woman's male partner, also in his 20s, developed fever, a maculopapular rash, joint pain and conjunctivitis.

The NYC Health Department says it is the first ever documented case of female-to-male Zika transmission.
