NEW YORK - (AP) - Attention texting pedestrians andiPod-obsessed runners on the street: You may soon get unplugged.

Lawmakers in Arkansas and New York have proposed restrictions onthe use of cell phones and music players such as iPods by peoplerunning and walking on the street or sidewalk.

The proposal before the Arkansas Legislature by DemocraticSenator Jimmy Jeffress would ban pedestrians from wearingheadphones in both ears while on the street or sidewalk. Butpedestrians could wear a headphone in one ear.

A New York lawmaker also has proposed banning pedestrian use ofelectronic devices while in the crosswalk of cities with apopulation of one million or more. The proposals come as safetyadvocates are shifting their attention more to pedestriansdistracted by their gadgets.
