THE BRONX - It's time to play ball! Opening day has arrived for the New York Yankees.

Fans of the pinstripes are out in full force at Yankee Stadium celebrating the start of the baseball season as the Bronx Bombers face their favorite rivals: the Boston Red Sox.

The team is starting off with more question marks than usual as some feel the dynasty that dominated the past decade is near its end due to a combination of age, injury and off-season losses.

Some familiar faces are already missing from the infield. Shortstop Derek Jeter, first baseman Mark Teixeira and third baseman Alex Rodriguez are all injured. Outfielder Curtis Granderson is out of action, too.

Both the Yankees and the Red Sox are wearing a special ribbon on their uniforms in memory of those killed during the shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Conn.

Also kicking off the 2013 baseball season at home in New York City is the New York Mets, who are up against the San Diego Padres.
