NEW YORK - A new crop of NYPD cadets graduated today at Madison Square Garden. It was the last group of graduates under Commissioner Ray Kelly, and under Mayor Michael Bloomberg’s administration.
Both men reflected on their work with the department. Bloomberg talked about how crime has dropped to record lows during his tenure. Kelly talked about leaving the department he has worked with for 47 years.
The commissioner reminded graduating cadets that no matter where their career takes them in the police department, they must always remember they have one goal: to protect and serve the people of New York.
The newest members of the NYPD come from 45 different countries, which the mayor said will help them serve this diverse city well.
