THE BRONX - Councilman Andrew Cohen marks the first new council member District 11 has seen in quite some time.

The newly elected City Council member replaces Oliver Koppell in the district that includes neighborhoods from Riverdale to Sputen Duyvil, and across to Norwood and Woodlawn.

Cohen is still making the transition into his new space, but is no stranger to Bronx politics. He served on Community Board 8 and has lived in Riverdale for 12 years. While on the board, Cohen served on its aging committee, focusing on the needs of Bronx seniors - something he says is very important.

Cohen spoke with News 12 reporter J.T. Fetch about a range of issues, including his thoughts on Mayor Bill de Blasio's announcement to improve pedestrian safety. Cohen says this topic is something that resonates with his constituents.

Cohen says he places great emphasis on being visible in the community and for residents in District 11 to know there is a new council member.
