NYC bus ads asking 'Leaving Islam?' cause a stir

NEW YORK - (AP) - The questions on the ads aren't subtle: LeavingIslam? Fatwa on your head? Is your family threatening you?

Ads carrying those phrases are appearing on at least 30 New YorkCity buses, paid for by a conservative activist and theorganizations she leads.

The activist, Pamela Geller, says the ads are aimed at Muslimswho are already contemplating leaving the faith.

Faiza Ali of the New York chapter of the Council onAmerican-Islamic Relations says they are a smokescreen for ananti-Muslim agenda.

The Metropolitan Transportation Authority says the ads don'tviolate any of its guidelines. They went up May 14 and arescheduled to come down in a couple of weeks.
