THE BRONX - Production company Silvercup Studios is spending millions of dollars to open a new location in the borough's Port Morris section.

The Port Morris site will be the third of Silvercup Studios' in the city. It will also be the tallest among them and is expected to come with special acoustic doors and walls that will cancel out any noise from LaGuardia Airport.

In addition to studios, Silvercup North will include shops, offices and other support space. An existing warehouse at 295 Locus Ave. will be retrofitted to accommodate the new amenities.

Borough President Ruben Diaz Jr. says the new studio will help the Bronx rebrand itself and create more jobs.

The $35 million project is expected to bring in 400 industry and production jobs, in addition to 80 to 100 construction jobs.

Studio president Stuart Suna says that he looks forward to showcasing the amazing stories and backdrops offered by the Bronx.

Silvercup Studios opened in 1983 in Long Island City, Queens. It has produced television series such as "Sex and the City," "The Sopranos," "30 Rock," and "Girls," among many others. Film credits of the studio include "When Harry Met Sally" and "The Devil Wears Prada."

Officials say they hope to begin shooting out of the new location by May 2016.
