NYC schools face off in robotics competition

THE BRONX - High school students from the Bronx and Brooklyn faced off Friday during round one of the regional FIRST robotics tournament.

The competition, called ?For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology,? or FIRST, brought students together at the Jacob Javits Convention Center to battle for a spot at nationals.

Eleven Bronx high schools and eight Brooklyn schools qualified for this year?s soccer-themed tournament. After spending six weeks building the contraptions, students spent the day maneuvering their robots over bumps and trying to score goals.
