NYPD begins citywide crackdown of drivers on cells

THE BRONX - ? The NYPD has started a citywide 24-hour enforcement initiative on drivers using cell phones on the road.

The initiative will begin at midnight on Tuesday. Police will be on the lookout for drivers talking or texting on their cell phones while behind the wheel. Last year, police handed out 811 summons for cell-phone use while driving.

Cops will hand out $100 tickets to anyone caught in the act. Drivers will also get two points added to their license.
