BROOKLYN - A dolphin seen swimming in Coney Island Creek is believed to have safely made its way back out to the Atlantic Ocean.

The NYPD says the dolphin swam out during high tide Thursday night after officers created a hole in the creek boom.

Marine experts and Brooklyn neighbors had feared that the animal did not survive because it wasn’t seen again after an apparent struggle at the end of the waterway.

Police say that while it's not that uncommon to see a dolphin in the ocean near Coney Island, it's the first time that one was spotted in the creek.
