THE BRONX - Police charged a 61-year-old Bronx man with manslaughter after they say he fatally beat a man who broke into his home and tried to rape his wife Monday.

Police say Mamadou Diallo rushed to his wife's aid in their home around 10 p.m. at 1240 Washington Ave. in Morrisania, after she called him and told him a man broke into their home and attacked her.

Police say the intruder struck Nenegale Diallo, 51, and left bruises on her forehead. Police say the suspect also tried removing her clothes.

She was able to break free and use a cellphone to alert her husband — who was outside the home but nearby, police say.

When her husband got the call, he returned to the sixth-floor apartment where he discovered 43-year-old Earl Nash and beat him with a blunt object, according to police.

Nash was transported to Lincoln Hospital and later died of his injuries.

Part of the incident was recorded by surveillance cameras, which News 12 has exclusively obtained. It appears to show Diallo attacking the shirtless Nash in a hallway with a tire iron. Police say it was recorded moments after Nash broke into the apartment.

Police say Nash had multiple prior arrests, and other surveillance video shows him knocking on other doors in the building before entering the Diallo apartment.

Police at the NYPD's 42nd Precinct arrested Diallo. He was expected to face a judge at an unspecified time Tuesday.

Diallo's son says the family moved to the Bronx more than 20 years ago from Guinea looking for a better life. His mother declined to speak on camera but told News 12 she had not previously met her attacker.
