THE BRONX - Police shot a man in the arm and found a gun Monday in Morrisania, according to authorities.

Police say an officer shot the suspect in the right arm after he allegedly waved a gun in the street outside 1071 Tinton Ave., near the Forest Houses.

The man was taken to Lincoln Hospital and is expected to survive.

Police say a witness approached two uniformed officers around 3:45 p.m. and told them there was a gun-wielding man near the Forest Houses. The officers found the man and ordered him to drop the weapon several times, but he did not comply, according to authorities.

Both officers shot at the man, and one bullet struck him, according to the NYPD.

Witnesses say they heard someone shouting "Put it down!" repeatedly. Others say they saw the armed man near the housing complex.

Police say the officers also went to the hospital for observation but were not injured.

Police have not released the suspect's name, but say he is in custody and awaiting charges.

Police ask anyone with information to call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-577-TIPS.
