BROOKLYN - An off-duty police officer is recovering after being shot in Brooklyn. 

It happened at around 10 p.m. Tuesday on Bradford Street and Linden Boulevard in the East New York section of the borough. 

According to police sources, 33-year-old Tramaine Oxley, an officer at PSA 2 in the neighborhood, was in the passenger seat of his cousin's car when two men approached and tried to rob them. 

They say multiple shots were fired between the suspects and the wounded officer, who was hit in the right arm and grazed in the chest. It's not clear whether either of the suspects were shot. 

The officer was taken to Brookdale Hospital where he's listed in stable condition. 

The suspects are believed to have fled the scene in a blue BMW. Anyone with information should call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-577-TIPS
