THE BRONX - An NYPD officer from the Bronx has died after crashing her car in Queens.

According to police, 36-year-old Elisa Toro was off duty when her Ford Focus hit a guard rail and a cement barrier on the exit ramp of the Ed Koch Queensboro Bridge.

The vehicle then turned onto its passenger side upon impact, striking a vacant store.

Toro was pronounced dead at the scene. No other injuries were reported.

Leo Rising, Toro's friend, told News 12 The Bronx that she was an inspiration, and that she was a mother, a friend, a defender and a true hero.

Police say this is the fourth serious crash in the area since 2011.
