NYPD releases new stop-and-frisk numbers

THE BRONX - The NYPD has released new figures regarding the stop-and-frisk program.

The police department reports that there was an eight percent increase in stops from 2008, which is 575,000 more people than the previous year.

The NYPD also says they recovered more than 7,000 weapons using the tactic, which is a 10 percent rise from last year?s report.

Opponents of the stop-and-frisk tactic say the majority of those being stopped are black and Hispanic men, leaving many to believe that that the program is discriminatory toward minorities.
