NYPD report: Crotona Park sees rise in crime

An NYPD crime report that was recently released says that Crotona Park saw a total of 26 robberies, seven felony assaults, five grand larcenies, one burglary and a rape in 2013. (3/12/14)

THE BRONX - A popular Bronx park is seeing a rise in crime.

An NYPD crime report that was recently released says that Crotona Park saw a total of 26 robberies, seven felony assaults, five grand larcenies, one burglary and a rape in 2013.

Many people told News 12 that they are not surprised by the numbers and that it's usually a good idea to walk through the park with someone.

City Councilwoman Vanessa Gibson says there has been a rise in felony complaints since 2011 and that it doesn't seem like a one-year issue.  She says it is something that she will be working with police on to make sure parks are as safe as possible.
