THE BRONX - The overall number of homicides is up and 24 percent of them occurred in The Bronx, according to statistics released by the New York Police Department.

The Bronx had the second-highest murder rate among the boroughs. Police in Edenwald investigated 23 murders last year.Brooklyn topped the list with nearly 50 percent of murders last year.

The statistics are part of "Murder in New York City: 2010," an NYPD analysis of last year's 536 homicides. The number includes 19 people who died from injuries suffered in previous years.
