NYPD to perform extra checks on trains, subways

NEW YORK - (AP) - New York City commuters may see extra policeofficers on their trains Tuesday morning.

Approximately 100 officers from the New York Police Departmentwill be at Penn Station, Grand Central Station and Herald Squarebeginning at 7 a.m. They will do additional bag screenings andinspections of train and subways.

The increased police presence is part of a planned operation. Itis the second to take place this year.

The department says they will plan another operation withseveral police agencies on Friday, before the July 4 holidayweekend.
