NEW YORK - City officials urged New Yorkers to prepare early for heavy snow expected Thursday.

They say commuters should leave for work with plenty of time and asked them to take public transportation.

"We want to keep the roads clear for the plows," says Joseph Esposito, the commissioner of the Office for Emergency Management. "The trains and buses will be running, but again leave yourself some extra time because there probably will be some delays because of the weather."
