Off-duty firefighter saves children from burning building

William Powers, an off-duty firefighter, became a hero today after he pulled children out of a burning building.Powers was walking by when he saw flames

THE BRONX - William Powers, an off-duty firefighter, became a hero today after he pulled children out of a burning building.

Powers was walking by when he saw flames and smoke coming out of the Women's and Children's Shelter on the Grand Concourse.

Seven people had to be taken to the hospital, including the children and Powers himself.
