Office of Emergency Management: Be prepared for Earl

(09/02/10) THE BRONX - As Hurricane Earl approaches the Northeast, New York City's Office of Emergency Management is spreading the word about what to do should a hurricane strike.

The OEM passed out yellow handbags filled with information on how to prepare for an emergency. Officials also said to be sure to create an emergency-supply kit filled with batteries, non-perishable foods, drinking water and flashlights. Residents should also have an evacuation bag ready and pack it with credit cards, cash and copies of all important documents.

Residents are also advised to discuss an evacuation plan with their family members.
