THE BRONX - An officer is recovering following a routine traffic stop that turned into a police-involved shooting and car chase.

According to investigators, a man in his early 30s was stopped on Grand Avenue and West 183rd Street at around 5 p.m. Tuesday. They say he hit the gas as the officers approached, striking one of them.

The driver was shot in the leg as he drove away from the scene, leading police on a chase before crashing his car at Van Nest and Matthews avenues.

The suspect was arrested and taken to Jacobi Medical Center, where he's listed in stable condition. The officer hit by his car was also taken to the hospital with a leg injury.

The incident is under investigation.
